Use one of those soft metal steel looking soft scrunggie things you buy in kitchen supplies to use on pots and pans. It won't scratch but removes a lot of sins with a little bar keeper's friend or a scrub powder or baking soda.

At some WalMarts and Dollar General stores you can find THE WORKS. It is fantastic. It will "eat through" all of that "crap" and no scrubbing is necessary.

Depending what your sink is made of, be careful using any harsh chemicals. I would try Janet Pizaro's idea first.

I use a well-soaked SOS on outside windows to remove sun-baked water minerals. When you get the stains removed, wondering if paste wax would help with the sink.

I doubt that many would be brave enough to use this method as it involves harsh chemicals but when needs must. I use a loo cleaner which removes 100% limescale, I would advise that you leave it on for 3 mins, rinse thoroughly with cold water while using an old toothbrush or similar to gently scrub the area and then repeat if required. I live in a very hard water area in London and it is the only method I have had any success with. Not recommended if you do not have quality taps. Good luck

The Works Toliet Bowl Cleaner has weak muratic acid. It will take it off. Use on a rag and dot then rinse keep doing it until it's off. We clean for a living and I can get hard water build up off stuff that has t been cleaned for years. But it is a weak acid so use gloves and vent. Rinse don't breath in with it.

Have you tried "Awesome"? It comes in a spray and it works great on this sort of thing. You can buy at Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, etc....also citrus normally works too...either an orange (sliced) or lemon.

How about a mix of table salt and vinegar. Gently rub it on, leave it for a bit and scrape off the residue. Be careful not to scratch your chrome. You can also, try WD-40. My plumber shared that advice with me.

I was able to remove hard water scale build up using baking soda and white vinegar. The granite counter tops around the sinks and faucets in my son's house had pretty bad build up of white hard water scale. They had tried everything to remove it with little success. I poured baking soda over the white scale and followed up with white vinegar. I let it sit for a few minutes and then wiped it up. It removed most of the scale. I repeated the process for more stubborn scale and used a plastic scraper. When I finished, the scale was gone. My son and daughter-in-law were amazed.

I have 2 gentle suggestions: 1. Soak a few layers of paper towels in vinegar and press on the stains. Leave overnight. You can press plastic wrap on top of the paper towels to keep them wet. The next morning, scrub with a paste of Bar Keepers Friend and a non-abrasive scrubbing pad. 2. If that doesn't work, make a paste of Bar Keeper's Friend-apply to area and cover with soaking wet paper towels. Leave overnight. Then scrub. Both of these have worked for me and do not etch or harm your finishes.
