goo gone springs into my mind. I don’t have a bottle of it at this time to read the back of the package.
Hi Charlene, WD40 takes adhesive off. Since yours is on your carpet, I suggest spraying the WD40 on a rag and dab at the tape residue.

Blot the glue with Goo Gone. Do not rub or you will force it deeper into the fibers.
I little Eucalyptus oil lifts tape residue off everything involving glues dab lightly moving from outside of residue to inside or if a straight strip wipe in one direction
Try “Goo Gone”. You can for me it at any hardware store, Home Depot, etc.
