Buy Kilz primer that comes in a spray can, not the one that you brush or roll on. You need an oil based primer; water base will not cover it. If you can't find that, use varnish, then when dry, paint over it.

Make sure the area is completely dry with no bowing or cracks in the surface. If it is dry and intact, continue on with the Kilz primer as directed and paint.

Prime it, if its textured buy some Homex Spray Ceiling Texture in the type of texture you have ie. popcorn, orange peel, knock down, and then paint it.

Great ideas! IF all else fails...cut out the section & replace with new wall board material.

You can put clear polyurethane on the stain, and let it dry. Then use the color of paint over the stain. I use flat white paint on it.

There was one place it didn't cover because I didn't get enough polyurethane on it. I just did that area again. It looks great. Hope it is well help.

  • Use a good primer, you'll probably need two coats and then paint. We recently found one from Benjamin Moore with low VOCs and it was waterbase, so it didn't smell and it worked great to cover our stain.
