Veneer, or laminate involves to different materials. The easiest way is with dry ice and a scraper. It will crystallize the glue. Get some small wood slats as well. With insulated gloves, and leaving the ice in an ope plastic bag, sit it on the veneer near an edge, as you let it sit for about 2 min., theen move it forward, and slide your scraper under the veneer. place wooden slats to prevent re-gluing and continue. The other method involves removing the finish first with a heavy bodied stripper, then using lacquer thinner, in a squirt bottle, and the same method with the scraper and wooden slats. I hope this helps.

scraping it off with a sharp edged scraper also works well. Sanding can take off the glue that is left.

If the veneer is in good shape. No bubbles. separation. You can paint directly over it. Cracks can be filled with wood putty and sanded smooth. Prime with Kilz and Paint. Seal with at least three coats of a water based paint.
