Make Your Own Non-Toxic Dish Soap

Store-bought dish soaps are expensive and many of them contain toxic chemicals like formaldehyde and ammonia. In fact, the leading cause of poisonings in the home for children under the age of six is liquid dish soap. Protect your family and your wallet and homebrew your suds!
What you'll need:

-2 cups pure liquid castile soap

-½ cup lemon juice

-essential oils (optional)

-funnel

-empty bottle

-mixing bowl

-whisk (or other stirring tool)

HOW TO:

1.) Mix 2 cups of liquid castile soap with ½ cup of warm water in your bowl. Castile soap is any soap made entirely from vegetable oil, and can be found at your local health food store.

2.) Add ½ cup of lemon juice. The lemon will add acidity to your soap, which is a powerful degreasing agent and important for dish duty.

3.) Add essential oils. These are optional, but a few drops of scented oil will add a little extra aroma to your soap. We’re partial to lavender, but play around with different scents and choose your favorite!

4.) Mix your soap. Thoroughly mix all ingredients using a whisk or other stirring tool.

5.) Add your soap to a bottle. Using your funnel, add your liquid dish soap to an empty bottle. You can use old store-bought soap bottles, or any other spare containers you have lying around.

6.) Produce in bulk. For extra cost-efficiency, multiply this recipe and make a few bottles at a time!

Thanks for the information. Sounds interesting. Could I substitute vinegar for the lemon juice?
