Try pieces of lemons
I keep an ice cube tray filled with cut up lemons or limes (whatever is cheapest) and water in my freezer. I throw a couple into the disposer while it's running at least once a week.......odors are gone1
Cut up a fresh lemon and run it through the disposal with lots of water.
Try running some ice cubes (and pieces of lemon rind if you have some) through the disposal. Then put about 1/4 cup of baking soda down the disposal and pour about 1 cup of white vinegar in. Wait about 30-45 minutes and pour 2-3 pans of boiling water down the drain. You can repeat a couple of times if needed.
I, also, found a special brush on Amazon that is made for disposals. It gets to that funky stuff that hides under the rubber flaps. It's called Mr. Scrappy and has many uses around the house.
Darlene Ernst is correct in saying the odor is probably from the rubber gasket at the top of the drain. I soak a cloth in vinegar & use it to remove all the gunk from under the gasket. This works for front loading washing machines as well.
