I add a cup of baking soda, a cup of vinegar then follow with 2 cups of boiling water, then run it ... and on a weekly basis I toss in a handful of lemon peel -- we use a lot of citrus fruit --- grapefruit, orange etc. all works. IF something has become LODGED ... a fork, corn cob, etc., you need to disconnect the electric supply, and refer to your owners manual for info on taking it apart .... if you no longer have the manual -- the unit should have the name/serial # on the sides somewhere -- then just look up on the internet

    HI Wilma,

My name is Linda and I cut up a lemon, add some ice, put both of them in the disposal and turn it on. The lemon cleans and deodorizes while the ice helps keep the blades sharp. Once that's all gone, I plug up the drain and fill the sink with hot, soapy water, remove the plug and let it all drain out at once. I hope this helps.

Thanks to you all. I tried the soda and vinegar once but did not put enough I guess. I also didnt put in the boiling water. I have only lived here for one and half years and had never had a disposal before. Im ancient in age, ha. I will try everything you all suggested and again, thank you.
