How to clean kitchen cabinets?

I purchased new home January 2018. The kitchen cabinets are dark brown. I'm not sure if they are wood or not. I wanted to clean handprints and used Pledge. It left a white dusty film on the cabinets. Then I tried using oil and it did the same. How do I clean them?

Sounds like they have a coat or many coats of wax on them that turns white when you try to remove. I would get a good degreaser and either spray it on and wash off or add to water and wash the doors off, you might have to rinse them off with clear water. Than you can either rewax or sand off the top layer of stain.

Thank you for answering. I'm not even sure they're real wood, but I'll try your suggestion.

TSP, trisodium phosphate, Murphy's Oil Soap, or Krud Kutter.

I have found a miracle worker for cabinet grime! Meguiar's hot rims wheel and tire cleaner! That's right! Just cleaned my own and it works wonders!! I was shocked but thrilled!!

Thank you for answering. I really don't think it's grime because they're brand new. I'm not even sure they're real wood, but I'll try your suggestion.

Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and warm water and pour it into a spray bottle. Mist on cabinets, let sit for a minute or two and then wipe clean with a soft cloth. Add a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent to the vinegar and water solution to clean extremely grimy cabinets.
