How do I remove residue from kitchen granite countertops?

I recently had granite countertops installed and in the bathrooms I had an inch of exposed residue. The kitchen has the blackspash the same day. How do I remove the residue so I can paint these spaces.

Wow! That is one sloppy installation. Call the company back and make them finish the job properly. To me, this is simply unacceptable as well as unprofessional. Were you there during installation? I would not have let them leave until it was "showroom" perfect. You paid good money for these countertops, installation needs to be flawless as well.
I agree with Namomie. I also think that this part was from a backsplash - just from looking at the picture so I could be mistaken Even so, they should have at least, minimally cleaned this off for you as part of their installation protocol. Call the company and let them know about the sloppy job plus how you feel about it. Wishing you the best.
Hi Cindy. I agree. You pay extra for the back splash piece. I had counter tops installed and the installers did not leave a mess like that. If they aren't willing to work with you and help then I would report them to the BBB. You could install some sort of tile to hide the mess.
What is that? Kind of hard to tell from the photo. What did your installer say it was? Is it part of unfinished wall that was previously hidden behind your old backsplash or it is actually part of the backsplash that has adhesive smeared on it? Is it flat or is it angled out from the wall? If it is flat and part of the original wall, I would opt to cover it with a narrow decorative piece of wood painted to coordinate with or match your walls.
I agree with Naomie and everyone else. It's a sloppy job. It looks like the wall wasn't smooth so they filled in the gap with something to cover the bad job. Call them back and have them do it properly.
Adhesive from an old back splash. I had same problem when I had to install new shower surround in my old house....the new surround was shorter than original. I was unable to find anything to remove the adhesive. Fortunately I textured walls so painting disguised it, plus it was in shower. I suggest hiding it with tile.
