For a natural cleaner make a mixture of white vinegar, water and baking soda,Apply to the patio, scrub with a brush or if you have a power washer and rinse. You can also use a mixture of bleach and water.

Use a power washer. - Just be careful not to use nozzles with a tightly focused spray or too high a pressure—anything above 3,000 psi may damage the brick. Be very careful if you decide to use bleach... No more than a 10-percent solution of chlorine bleach to water, scrub the area with a stiff-bristle brush, and then rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Without seeing the problem it is hard to advise. Moss, mildew, dirt, tree debris stain, old age, zombie crime scene blood stains...? Power wash is likely your first step. Rent a good one.

@Naomie Moore aka baileyanddaisey Muratic acid will do the job where really bad, sandblasting better, pressure wash might do most of it, but rent a real powerful one. You can always seal it afterwards with a varathane, marine varnish if it works on boat hulls, it will hold up outdoors. I have painted concrete using checkerboard patterns ( I used a chalk line to lay out the squares, then hand painted on the stain colors) of varied stain colors that covers a lot of sins as the pattern tends to blend them in and make them look as if they were meant to be there to 'antique' it.
  • Janet and MN Mom are both excellent recommendations! If you have a steam cleaner and outside source of electricity, I have used that to clean my mom's patio with excellent results. Some Home Depot or Lowes rent them for around $20 a day. Also clleaned the patio furniture well, as being in Southern California, our stuff is outside year round. Just be sure to move or protect any potted plants. Hope these suggestions help! Happy cleaning! :-)
