Deck cleaning- should I power wash or use a regular hose?

I've always power washed my deck after brushing with cleaning solution. Recently I've heard that I should just rinse with normal hose pressure and that I was actually driving harmful bacteria into the wood with the high pressure washer. Any comments? Or, anyone have tips on how to pressure wash a deck safely?

a power wash can actually strip sealer so careful how many times you do that. I got my cement wet then sprinkled tide and used a broom and swept around then rinsed with a regular hose. This was on cement. On red wood we rented a sander and ran that over quick then resealed. Looks brand new again.

Actually you would be driving the water deep into the grain and also breaking the fibers of the wood with high pressure. A garden hose wold be enough to rinse with.

First the wood deck is getting bacteria from the elements, and the pollution in the air. Powerwashing, gets all the hidden dirt, and the smell, out of the wood. Next, I would put a sealer on the deck to preserve the wood. Go to Homedepot or Lowe's and look at the different kinds of sealers they have. If you put sealer on the deck, you can just hose it off. The residue will come off because it's sealed. Good Luck!
