Southern Traditions: Why Did My Grandmas Sweep Their Yards?
My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
Use a product called Wet and Forget safe for you surface and garden.
Rent a power (aka. pressure) washer. Set it on low and use plain water to remove the mold, mildew and dirt. Industrial type pressure washers are very strong, so be sure to start on lowest pressure.
I agree with using the power washer. I use it for my garden and patio.
If you have spots that are hard to get clean, fix a bucket with liquid dish soap and scrub the areas using a scrub brush. You also might want to cover your plants/flowers with a tarp if you choose to use your power washer.
Scrubbing Bubbles - spray on, wipe off. Easy!
Go to home Depot and get JOMAX...........works great on vinyl and protects it from mold and mildew
This is how I cleaned mine. The grass was not harmed in any way.

The Dirty Truth
My husband is a Contractor and we always use diluted bleach (Clorox only)..The cheaper brands do not work. First, wet your plants very well with a hose. Then immediately apply bleach/water with a bug sprayer in sections to the fence. Lastly spray it down with hose. If spots are very bad, you may have to wipe it and rinse it afterwards. He has never once killed a plant :). ....Bleach breaks down very fast! Just a FYI, do not let bleach sit on fencing more than a couple minutes. We usually team up on the house, one with bug sprayer, one with hose.
I would use white vinigar and lemmon juice it is very good on mold @ mildew. Be careful to get the mix right! Alternatively Bi Carb of Soda. Mix into a past with a few drops of water apply with a cloth. For stubborn marks use a small brush then rinsh off. Good luck! Kay Adelaide Australia
I would put ammonia and dish soap in a hose-end sprayer (used for the garden), hook it up to the hose and spray the fence, and use a scrub brush or mop to scrub. It should do a good job on the fence, AND your plants will LOVE it!
One of the Readers' Digests emails suggested using WD40 to clean vinyl. I haven't tried it so can't tell you if it really works
We have used Jomax for years and yes it does a fantastic job of cleaning .

I no these post are a few years old, however I have white vinyl fence and mine hade never been cleaned. They were quite a few years old and filthy! I used a Mr.Clean sponge! It was time consuming but my plants and grass and everything else was perfectly safe and the fence looked better than it did when it was New!
