What is best way to remove rust from wrought iron columns on front porch?
The columns serve as decorative support for ceiling on front porch. Can the rust be removed with the columns in place? Who does this kind of work?
We've used sandblasting. You can have a local shop do it for you if you've not got access to one :)
You can use a grinder attachment on a drill, wire brush, etc. to remove large rusted pieces. If the rust is basically "surface" you can clean as best you can and then paint with Rustoleum which will stop further deterioration.
The rust can be scraped off using a painter's scraping tool and/or heavy-duty sandpaper. Wipe off any residue rust dust and paint the railing using a small brush for the top and corners. Use a small length roller for up and down the supporting rails.
lightly sand off the rust and use Naval Jelly
Remove Rust: Use sandpaper, a wire brush, or a wire brush drill attachment toremove all the rust and loose paint. (NOTE: Wear an approved dust mask or respirator when removing paint or spray painting.) Remove Dust: Blow off or vacuum the railings to remove as much dust as possible.
power wash or sander
Steel wool and wire brushes. Repaint with Rustoleum paint for metal.
