Southern Traditions: Why Did My Grandmas Sweep Their Yards?
My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
Continually spray with vinegar. Or smother for a season until dead.
You can use tree and shrub killer poison. Follow label directions. It worked for me to get rid of some scrub trees along my driveway. Use caution if you have pets. Good luck.
Gonna have to use a herbicide that will kill whatever you removed, but that doesn't kill the trees. Maybe Weed b Gone in a garden sprayer. Only other thing I can thing off is to put down landscape fabric.
Boiling water works well too but remember that your existing trees have roots under the ground that can be affected.
I would cover the area for a year like Naomie suggested. Maybe scrape up all visible growth and cover the area in 6” of Clean wheat straw or wood chips.
😊
You need to go deeper and dig out the roots. Sorry, it had to be said.
Normally I would suggest a homemade treatment but for this project I would call a landscaper..... you have so much land and trees worth protecting I would bite the bullet and have it professionally treated. Your backyard is an asset worth protecting.
I agree with the comment above, that would be an incredible loss if all those trees were damaged or killed in the process, I would definitely call a landscaper for this job
