Kdeeinc, if there is more than just a tiny amount of mold, this is one time that I highly suggest that you call in the pros., Mold is not only insidious and can hide way into the drywall and subfloors (at the very least), but can be deadly. Once the mold is totally remediated, the smell should go away. Don't mask it---- remove it.

Of course the best answer is remove it. But i was once in a rental with no other rental option at the time. I used copious amounts of vinegar and water solution, about half and half and sprayed down the basement and fabrics upstairs. Washed everything i could wash and go out somewhere while it dries and smell dies down. It helped for the time i was there. There is also a commercial product put out by Mike Holmes and it is supposed to be used in a fogger of some sort. Maybe look for that also till finances and time allow for full removal?

Hello. I use 50/50 of bleach and water. I would open any windows you can and wear a mask. I would also get a dehumidifier and keep that running.

  • Good old white vinegar. Vinegar kills the mold spores.

If more than surface mold you need to call in the pros. Considered hazardous waste and regulated by the EPA.

  • There are several ways to get rid of mold, but most importantly, you need to address the root cause to keep it from returning. This article focuses on the bathroom, but is an overall great article that covers methods of how to remove mold, if bleach is safe to use, and how to prevent it from coming back. Hope this helps!
