Hi ! We had this issue in the home we bought ! We bought our retirement home and whenever we would come to work on it , the smell hit you as soon as you walked in . We tried everything . We weren't luck g in the house for a coup!e of years, fixing it up every other weekend until we were ready to retire .

first it only seemed to be in the entryway and the back bedroom closets . There was no evidence of mold , mildew , or even any dampness ( we even checked the walls ) when we changed our the appliances the was no evidence of prior leaks... We painted everywhere ...w e had our crawlspace re done before we moved in . We put in a house dehumidifier ...we changed our the flooring ...we left Windows open during nice , non humid days ... I tried charcoal absorbers, and bowls of kitty litter they helped some ... But then quite by accident , I found

Something that worked ... Flavored coffee !!!! I bought some maple bacon coffee from Aldi's and brought some in a zip lock bag when we came down one weekend . The coffee was just ok , it smelled great but it's taste was plain .we didn't make it a second time and I forgot to pack the bag of ground flavored coffee when we left . Well when we came back 2 weeks later , WOW what a surprise !!! The house smelled GREAT !!!! Smelled like I was cooking breakfast . I ran out and bought a few bags of the coffee . I don't know why it worked so well , when in a sealed bag , but it did...we have since moved in and the smell has gone and I don't use the coffee truck anymore .

Eliminate the source of moisture and dampness.

Place Damp Rid products throughout the space. I prefer the ones that are designed to hang in a closet over the buckets.

Clean everything with either white vinegar or Odo-Ban.

Newspaper, activated charcoal, and baking soda are also good at eliminating odor. However, Odo-Ban is my go to because I love the clean scent and it also disinfects.

  • There are several ways to get rid of mold, but most importantly, you need to address the root cause to keep it from returning. This article focuses on the bathroom, but is an overall great article that covers methods of how to remove mold, if bleach is safe to use, and how to prevent it from coming back. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly
