    What is the smell?

Is it musty or another odor?

Open the windows and air it out, also charcoal absorbs odors on a large scale.

Is the smell coming from the walls or maybe left behind furniture?

I honestly think it is coming from the walls. My husband thinks I’m crazy. It’s not a musty smell just old smelling. The house was built in 1935. An older couple lived here until they both passed. The was empty for a couple years. New carpets and appliances. We’ve checked for leaks and dampness. Could find none.

Get activated charcoal put in shallow roasting pans and set in rooms, closets attic, basement. You can buy activated charcoal whole house furnace/AC filters too. Buy the activated charcoal in bulk online it'll be cheaper. Here's one site to get it https://envirosupply.net/shop/activated-carbon.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItuTli7eG3wIVlR-tBh2X-wloEAAYAiAAEgLnXvD_BwE

Hi. If there's a lot of wood in the house and it has that antique smell, sealing the wood with a water based polyurethane will combat the smell. If it smells musty, you may want to check for any damp areas inside the house. And congrats on the new home!

The walls are painted paneling. Would that be causing the smell. I’m fairly certain the smell is in the walls.

I bet the smell is coming from old carpet it the house has that. In that case, a professional cleaning would help. I used a cleaner (https://familyfocusblog.com/carpet-cleaning-nashville-tn/) that used a citrus based solution and it smelled fantastic after they were done without being over powering. They used Odorcide 210, which you can get at Walmart.

Hi Cindy. Where the smell is the strongest, remove that piece of paneling. See if there's anything lurking behind. If not, paint all the paneling and seal the floor where it's wood. Good luck.
