Salt water. You should be able to taste the salt in the water. How I do it is I fill my laundry tubs with warm water and add plain table salt or ebsom salts will do also and your animal will have nice soft skin and fur. Soak the pet in the tub and continue to pour salt water over the pet, on their face you should do this with your hands. I can guarantee the fleas will jump off and commit suicide. Works for ticks too. Make sure the pet has no open wounds as this will burn the dickens. The animal won't like it but it works.

Blue dawn dish soap for the dog, food grade diatomeous earth for the outside, baking soda on the carpets and linens

Swimming-salt water. But if they are also inside then you need to vacuum everything really well and sprinkle salt all over (borax will work but I don’t like it on their paws) this dries up eggs. When you get home rinse pets Well with fresh water. Vacuum again. get rid of vacuum bag immediatly to outside. Repeat a couple more times over 7-10 period

If your animal is old, it will probably not take flea dipping well. My cat was 19 when she got fleas and went downhill after that. Had to have her put down nine months after dipping.

I'd go to a vet and see what they suggest. Fleas on an animal usually means fleas in the home, and getting rid of them is an arduous task.

    Good luck.

    • These days easily remedied. I have 6 indoor / outdoor cats with no fleas. I will not use chemicals because of the pets. Back in the day we always used vinegar and salt, as that is what they used in "the olden days" before chemicals were introduced to solve these problems.

So sorry about your cat, now there are easier ways to handle any flea problems.

I'm no expert here, what about vinegar in a spray bottle to spray inside your house.

You can sprinkle plain salt. On your carpets too. Under night lights close to carpet areas. Put bowls of water with dawn dish washing liquid & salt. they jump in & die. The light attracts them.

  • Vinegar. I spray the perimeter of my property and base of the house with vinegar. Does help quite a bit. I will not use chemicals in or around the house unless absolutely necessary.

Ive heard garlic will help keep fleas away! But I’d always check with your vet before using any home made remedy on your animals! Personally my dogs get flea baths with a oatmeal flea shampoo once every week roughly Just to be safe. But best thing is to keep fleas away from your property. We live on 5 acres and I keep all the property cut short as possible to not give fleas a breeding area. Any moist areas will be a good home for fleas. They don’t like heat or much sunlight! I’ve had zero problems with fleas with our 2 dogs. On the other hand my neighbors that all also own 5 acres each. They do not keep their property cut short of weeds and grass and their poor animals are always covered in fleas! Only times my dogs get fleas is when the neighbors dogs come over and play with my dogs. Then I have to give my dog flea baths right away to kill any fleas they got from the neighbors dogs! Getting rid of any moist areas or water sitting around will help your flea problems as well as Mosquitos

I bathe with Dr Bronners Peppermint shampoo...kills fleas on contact . Then I mix citronella oil...the essential oil not the lamp oil...with apple cider vinegar...shake up and lightly spritz my dogs . I haven't had fleas in over 15 years and I have 2 acres in the woods and 4 dogs. Don't forget ...I said LIGHTLY with the citronella oil mix. And use only a few drops in the spray bottle.
