Which DIY cleaning solution would work with a carpet cleaning machine?

How do you pre treat with hydrogen peroxide?

I use a car wash sponge. Test in an inconspicuous area to make sure that it doesn't "bleach" the area out first. If it does, then mix 50/50 with hydrogen peroxide and water then pour onto sponge and blot, blot blot. I don't scrub so as not to ruin the carpet fibers. Then use the carpet cleaning machine with the recommended product. And don't use more shampoo or detergent than recommended as left over product actually attracts more dirt. Rinse well and keep rinsing until the water extracted runs clear. It's a job. Hopefully you have help! And remind the kids to remove shoes upon entering the house to keep it cleaner. Or use inexpensive washable area rugs and runners from Target or Walmart to get you through the next year or so. Hope this helps!
