The most common causes of musty smell are mold and mildew, dust, dirty laundry, pet odors, spills and food that has been hanging over too long. Locate the source of the smell and either clean it or get rid of it. Dust, wash the bedding and curtains, wipe down the walls and baseboards before vacuuming. Open the windows and air it out if the weather is good. If bad weather, turn on the heat of a/c to circulate the air or use a fan. A HEPA filter will remove airborne particles or if humid get a dehumidifier. Clean with vinegar or baking soda. If there is carpeting, sprinkle baking soda on it, let it set for awhile to absorb the odors and then vacuum up.
The famous guy smell. Yeap my hubbies bedroom starts to smell also (sort of like a locker room).
He has his own air cleaner. Not a cheap one like sold at Walmart years ago. Found one at amazon.com that is automatic and uses hepa filters.
change his sheets once a week
use pillow protectors
wash his pillows
wash his comforter and bed blanket and even the mattress pad every few weeks
any soft surface needs to be washed since that is mainly what hold the stink in
does he have any food in his room?
my hubby also seems to hoard dirty dishes in his room
look around for dirty clothes thrown on the floor
vaccum the room daily (even a quick pass thru is better then none)

First,, dehumidifier or Damp Rid to pull the moisture from the air. Once you get the moisture down then clean with OdoBan. It is a great odor eliminator as well as disinfectant.
Hubbies pillows are in the washing machine right now. Adding about half a box of baking soda also helps freshen the items being washed.
Throw open the window for awhile every single day and get some fresh air in there, plus wash all the bedding and even vacuum the bed mattress.
Remove dirty clothes (socks stink!) every day from the room and make sure there aren't dirty dishes under the bed lol!
Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress, let it sit awhile then vacuum.
You both have separate bedrooms !?!?
