Hi Ron, Here are a few suggestions. First if you are able, clean all visible surfaces with a vinegar solution mixed with some water and a bit of "blue" dawn dish soap. This is a non toxic cleaning method. I Open windows to get fresh air in after you thoroughly clean all surfaces if you have ceiling fans, turn them all on.. The cigarette smoke travels through out the home so even bathrooms and closets and cupboards can smell from it. So unfortunately you need to clean those places also, if you have carpets, I would suggest a lot of vacuuming and cleansing of the carpets, and I would also suggest applying a loose coating of baking soda to the carpets first to help absorb the smell....then rent a carpet cleanser machine from your local grocery or hardware store... Paint on the walls also absorb the smell. I would make sure all of that is washed down also. Last, but not least...bricks of regular, not quick start charcoal, a couple of pieces in each room on a paper plate for a few days to help absorb any left over smell. I know its a lot of work, but that is the only way to get the smell gone. My grandparents had a cottage down in Cape Cod Mass, and they always placed the charcoal briquettes in each room on a paper plate when they closed the cottage for the season, it would remove the musty smell from a closed up home. It always works...oh and as a last note, recently, we did all of the above to help a friend who owns property and who had a rental unit that a tenant smoked in, though they said they would not. The charcoal did wonders and we put in those plug in air fresheners after all the cleaning and after the charcoal worked its magic. Hope this helps, and sorry for the long suggestion but this is a tough issue and I would suggest for future to take a deposit for any rentals and if they smoke inside they don't get that back.

Small bowls (approx. 3-4 oz) of vinegar placed in each room will help absorb the order and cleanse the air. Replace vinegar every other day until the smoke smell is gone

Ugh so gross cigarette smoking and smell. You will have to wipe down all areas of the house even including air ducts/air conditioning vents and filters. Wipe down walls and ceilings to remove cigarette soot using the vinegar, dawn and water solution. Wash tile floors with PineSol, if carpeting have them shampooed, take down all window treatments and wash them, wash windows, also wipe down any fabric couches/chairs, open windows to air out rooms, any area rugs will need to be cleaned as well. You can put jars of OdorEaters in the rooms to absorb any odors. The whole house will have to be cleaned top to bottom. That's why you should never smoke inside a house or in a car. So hard to remove that stench of cigarette smoke. Such a disgusting habit.
