To clean mildew and mold effectively from walls and grout, Joyce suggests that you mix a solution of one part bleach to three parts water. Dampen (don't soak) a sponge with the solution and apply it to the moldy areas. (Remember to wear protective gear such as glasses, gloves and even a face mask,
Bleach does not kill mold and mildew spores, just helps clean up the area and work on the staining. Finish with white vinegar, it will kill the spores, let it dry on its own to work the best. Make sure you include anywhere the bleach water ran down because the spores could be in the water that ran down. Make sure you take care of wherever the moisture is coming from or it will be back.
Nancy is correct. That bleach method is an old wives tale. Vinegar is the way to go.

First I would determine why you have mold and mildew. Humid climate? Ineffective air circulation? You might need exhaust fans and or dehumidifiers.
Hi Linda. I use a spray bottle and 50/50 bleach and water. Then I spray it on. I would recommend also have windows open and wearing a face mask.
Add full-strength white distilled vinegar to a spray bottle and spray it on the mold. Let it sit for at least an hour before wiping away mold. If you need follow-up scrubbing, combine one teaspoon baking soda with two cups of water. Pour it into a spray bottle, shake and spray it onto the mold.
Hi I agree bleach is not the way to go vinger does work also baking soda or borax 1 cup to a gallon spray on it leave it on over night then clean the area up when water and borax combin it becomes peroxide .I used it and works then out a dehumidifier in the basement
