This recipe works:
borax, washing soda (sodium carbonate) and laundry detergent in a 1:1:2 ratio. For a bathtub, add 1/4 cup borax, 1/4 cup washing soda and 1/2 cup laundry detergent. Stir until it dissolves completely.

regular Tide works the best but if you use another detergent use one without oxiclean or fabric softners, etc some of the methods do not use laundry detergent see info below and you will need to use clean clothes and then wash them in your washer after you strip them

You can use another but you want to use a powder detergent without added perfumes and dyes. I think they use Tide most often because it's the easiest to obtain.
You can also use 3 tablespoons of washing soda, 3 tablespoons of borax and 3 tablespoons of Calgon in a tub of hot water.
Hi! I use Oxiclean.
This article from Maytag recommends a borax mix. https://www.maytag.com/blog/washers-and-dryers/what-is-laundry-stripping.html#:~:text=Laundry%20stripping%20is%20an%20aggressive,and%20overnight%20hot%20water%20soak.
I recommend oxiclean. And I remember back in the day when I stripped cloth diapers, having water at a high temp also helps the stripping process.
stripping what ?
I've used Oxiclean and it did a pretty decent job.
I feel like Tide leaves yucky stuff on the clothes, so I would rather use a more natural recipe like this one.

I’ll probably get burned up for this but I’ve read all stripping does is remove colors, dulls the color and doesn’t really do anything. Detergents tend to look dirty to give you the impression they’re working. Just run a load with vinegar as your detergent, works great.
Hi Wendy, you shouldn't need Tide, here is a recipe to strip sheets and towels
