Is there a homemade hand cleaner for automotive grease?

My grandson works on his car & uses salt & dishwashing liquid but the salt is very hard on his hands.

I use coffee grounds and Soft Soap after working on the garden. I keep a jar of used and air dried coffee grounds by the sink. This scrubs the dirt off but doesn't dry out my skin like salt does. You likely need the dish soap for the grease though.

Personally, I'd just buy Goop hand cleaner in the automotive section. It works great

I use a little puddle of vegetable oil (any kind) in the palm of my hand with a shake of salt. The mixture dissolves paint and grease. Rinse under warm water and enjoy smooth hands.

I understand the salt problem, replace the salt with cornmeal and make it up into a jar, the other is fine sand with oil or even raw sugar. There are orange oil wet wipes that are sold in the painting department in hardware stores that will get rind of grease as well.
