How can I get rid of my apartment's musty odor?
My apartment has had a musty odor from day one. I have tried boiling sliced lemon, sitting out vinegar, air freshener etc.
first need to get rid of moisture causing it;make sure area is well ventilated good air circulation leave doors open add fans or dehumidifiers;use strauight vinegar to kill mold spores on pourous surfaces and bleach on non pourous surfaces, bleach not vinegar will remove discoloration/stains caused from mold on surfaces if you don't get moisture under control no matter how many times you kill mold spores it will regrow again.
porous surfaces use straight vinegar to kill mold non porous use bleach;no matter what you use to kill mold if you do not get moisture under control it will return;keep doors open to increase air flow lessen humidity levels(in bathrmms),add fans, use dehumidifiers, stop any leaks causing moisture problems;Activated charcoal will help eliminate musty odors as well as baking soda or silica gel desiccant packs or granules absorbs moisture which in turn reduces odor

Use a vinegar solution with warm water to get rid of the spores and the smell will go away. Sounds like you require some kind of ventilation so install fans in the bathroom and kitchen if you have none. A good dehumidifier will also help. You can set it and leave it to work on its own, just have to empty it when it gets full of water or you can have it drain into a floor drain, if possible.
Hi Bill - There are several ways to get rid of mold, but most importantly, you need to address the root cause to keep it from returning. This article focuses on the bathroom, but is an overall great article that covers methods of how to remove mold, if bleach is safe to use, and how to prevent it from coming back. Hope this helps! The most important thing is to find what is causing the mold. Consider a dehumidifier or sealing the area from outside air.
