If it is a light coating of ice the best scraper in the world is an old credit card. It bends to the shape of the windshield, not like those hard scrapers and gets the ice off fast. When it breaks, use another one. I keep a stack of them in the console from used up prepaid gift cards,
Em, I know it's been awhile since you answered this, but I wanted to be sure you keep the expired gift cards out of sight. In Chicago n suburbs your window would be broken out, where the thief hopes to get a free gift or thinks they are credit cards, and hopes to get cash advances or something easily resold for cash.
They somehow always know which atms and stores have no or low quality security systems.
Well I take a pitcher of hot water and slowley pour it on then scrape but when you start to scrape it will just start falling off. also start your car and put it on defrost that workes well for me
Seriously this is a good way to crack your windshield! Isopropyl alcohol aka rubbing alcohol.. is a better option. I hope people don't do this, especially those who can't afford a new windshield!
Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol has a very low freezing point, and removes ice very quickly. Keep a spray bottle of it handy in the car. Spray the windshield and watch the ice disappear.
I use 1:1 water with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Recently had to use it around the driver's door to get it open . . . :( have a small spray bottle and use it on the headlights and taillights, side mirrors, and windshield. Give it a good spray once you've started the car and by the time you are ready to go it is melted.
