This piece had already been painted before I acquired it. So I have improved it's condition even though I painted it.
The first thing I did was clean thoroughly with TSP and then lightly sanded it. I made some repairs with wood glue and tiny nails
I painted the metal with oil based black As I discovered I should have done this last.
The design was simple so I copied my own sewing machine by adding medallions on the side and drawers. I used nails in the large ones and glue in the drawers.
My husband drilled holes in the middle of the drawer medallions so I could attach the drawer pulls.
The brass handles were dark so I used several methods to try to restore them and found that silver polish did the best job.
They were much improved. Then I painted a primer on the wood.
It is very difficult to paint these things because you can't reach the insides due to the position of the iron. So I got a can of spray chalk paint that matched the color I was using so I could reach those hard to reach places. Then I painted the rest with a brush.
i transferred a picture with mod podge photo transfer. Then I antiqued the whole thing with a charcoal grey.
Lastly I retouched the black metal.
I listed it for sale for $150 and within 15 minutes I have a request to see it😊
