DIY Art Supply Caddy
With so many children at home this year doing virtual learning or homeschooling I thought I would get creative and try to find a solution to keep all of those school supplies neat and organized.
For us personally, we don’t have a designated work area, so for the most part we do our school work at the dining room table. All of the school supplies were being stored in the dining room hutch, however it was becoming such a hassle searching for the right box of crayons or markers each time we needed them. Not to mention how frustrating the clean up was when we had to put the items back into their original boxes.
The little storage caddy I came up with has been working out wonderfully! I filled it with the essential items we tend to use on a daily basis. It’s so easy to just pull out and set up in the middle of the table where all the children can easily reach it. At the end of the day when the school work is done it is simply tucked away back into the hutch and ready for the next day.
If you are anything like my family and enjoy eating a lot of clementines, this is the perfect way to repurpose the crates they come in. For this Project you will need a clementine crate and 6 jars or containers that will fit into the crate. I chose to use mason jars for mine as I liked the look of them, but you can use recycled pasta jars, yogurt containers or even plastic cups. Anything will work here.
You can leave the crate as is or customize it. I do recommend giving it a light sanding to get rid of some of the rougher pieces of wood. I chose to give mine a coat of neutral paint. You could also let your kiddos get involved and have them personalize their very own caddy. To finish it off and prevent the glass jars from sliding around I trimmed a scrap piece of drawer liner and placed it on the bottom of the crate.
The next thing you want to do is place the jars inside the crate and decide what you want to fill them with. This is a such a versatile project and you could use this caddy to organize so many other things.
School supplies are no longer an eye sore and it’s so much easier to find what we need.
To me this looks so inviting! I look forward to sitting down and being creative when everything is visually pleasing and organized.
It even blends in and looks cute sitting out on a shelf. I added a little chalk board label to finish it off. This would be great if you had multiple caddies for multiple children or uses.
