Glass Jar Art Supplies Holder - Mason Jars

Waste Not Craft Lots

I had an old jar lying around and lots of art stuff that needed a home so I decided to spruce it up a little. I don't think its the best thing I've ever made but it looks better than a plain old jar I hope! I've got a video of the "making of" on YouTube and some instructions below, I hope you enjoy it.
I started by cutting a load of shapes from masking tape and sticking them to the jar. I traced around some coins to get the various shapes and sizes and then cut two dividing parts of tape to separate the 2 colours from each other.
I used enamel paints to paint the jar, it took 3 coats but I feel as if I could have done one more.
Unfortunately when I peeled the masking tape off, a lot of paint got under the masking tape and I spent some time scraping it off! The masking tape I used was from a budget shop so I think that might've been the problem, it started to peel whilst I was painting.
I found some black junk mail and packaging and cut some pieces to border all the lines on the jar. I thought this might make it look more interesting and also clean up some of those raggedy lines left from the painting.
I used UHU glue to stick all the pieces on, I like it because it gets tacky very quickly and you can move at a relatively fast pace when using it.
When I was all finished I gave the whole thing a coat of PlastiKote in the hopes that it will improve its longevity. It also gives the glass a nice frosted look, perhaps something I'll use to my advantage in future projects.
I don't think its the best jar makeover ever! but, it was my first try and I am now keeping a load of my art stuff in it so it has a use. If you have any advice or questions or just general comments then please feel free to shoot them my way.
