Ribbon Organizer - IKEA Rast Hack

4 Hours
Easy
This is one of those type of dressers that you've got to open the drawer to see the fun!! I desperately needed a ribbon organizer. I was also asked to do a challenge on hacking a RAST dresser from IKEA. So I put the two together and came up with this ribbon organizer.
I placed a pull on the side of the ribbon organizer because this unit is placed under my desk. I can just roll out the organizer from the side. The hardware is from Hickory Hardware and is gorgeous.
Putting the Rast dresser together is pretty simple. All the pieces are already cut out and pre-drilled. You just need to assembler the dresser. The one thing I wanted to add is caster wheels. I knew I wanted to store this ribbon organizer under my desk. So it needed to pull-out easily.
Painting of course, makes all the difference in the world. I love this color. It's a soft coral and looks beautiful with the rose gold handles that were added to this. PPG Paint was used.
These chair tips were added to hold the wood dowels. They are rubber chair tips - are flexible and easy to cut.
Check my blog post for tips on how I added the dowel rods. It's super easy to add dowels to something with the chair tips. This unit can hold about 70-80 rolls of ribbon (depending on the sizes). Great project. How about using curtain spring rods instead of dowels and chair tips? I currently have rows of curtain spring rods in my laundry room window to hold ribbon spools. Makes wrapping easy on laundry folding surface. -A
