Everyone needs someone to keep their needles. This super simple and effective needle case could be the answer.

You will need: pinking shears, 2 pieces of cotton fabric, 2 pieces of felt 1.5inches smaller than the cotton in both width and length- approximate measurements used for mine 5x8 inches cotton), contrasting thread for tacking, matching thread for sewing, a button, pins, dressmaking chalk and a piece of ribbon.

First tack the 2 pieces of cotton together, vibrant sides out.

Now machine sew together as shown.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

Use pinking shears to cut around the edges, avoiding the stitching.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

Fold the fabric in half like a book as shown, pressing down along the fold.

Mark the top and bottom of the fold on the inside as shown with dressmakers chalk.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

Now take your felt and fold it in half as shown.

Now draw a line with dressmakers chalk and a ruler along the centre fold.

Now pin the felt to the cotton, lining up the central lines. Note- at this point in the project I decided not to use the second piece of felt as I don't have enough needles to need more 'pages' but if you want either a double thickness of felt or more pages, simply tack the 2 pieces of felt together before this step.

Now machine sew along the central line.

Now you should have something that looks like this. This is what it looks like folded out and on the outside.

This is what it looks like on the inside.

All that's left now is to put on the button and loop. Use your button to measure your ribbon. It should be long enough for the button to fit through the loop and then allow extra, as shown.

Sew the ribbon loop to the inside of the case as shown.

It should look something like this.

Finally sew the button to the outside of the other side of the case.

There you have it! A super simple needle case that only takes a little time to make. It's also a project you could get children involved in as presents for family members.
