I have clear plastic tower organizers (stacked) that I keep in the closet to hold all of my knitting and sewing patterns, wool, needles, fabric, notions, embroidery supplies etc.. My sewing room doubles as a spare bedroom so all needs to be tucked away
I went to habitat for humanity restore and found a great kitchen cabinet with pull out drawers (like a pantry cabinet). Painted it and it looks and works great.
fabric is best stored on wood hangers..the thicker wooden dowel doesn't leave creases. there are racks for thread, but i have mine in plastic storage boxes. they are sorted by color family. patterns are in a file box, sorted by pants and shorts, shirts and jackets, household..tea cozy anyone? my cutting table used to be a former kitchen island. there are cabinets underneath. the room came with lots of shelving already installed- used to be the vets office. it is heated independently from the house, and has a window ac unit.
