Supplies:

Scrape Lemons

Start by cutting your lemons in half long ways. Once they are cut take a spoon & scoop out the insides, kinda like carving a pumpkin. We are huge fresh lemon juice fans over here, so I have the juice by scooping over a little Tupperware container.

Mix Wax

You will know when you have scooped enough out when all the strings are gone & you are left with a clean core. Next, I started heating up the wax. I don’t have a double boiler yet but I plan on getting one ASAP. If you don’t have a double boiler just use two pans. Fill the larger one enough water that it sits an inch below the surface of the smaller top pan.

Prep & Pour

While the wax is melting, place the wicks inside the lemons.

Once the wax was completely melted I added in my lemon essential oil. I added in about two tablespoons but feel free to add more or less depending on how strong you want your candles to smell. You could also change the color of the wax by adding in a colored crayon. After I mixed the oil in really well I used a measuring cup to pour the wax into the lemons. I filled mine all the way to the top.

Final Step!

After I added the wax to the lemons I needed to secure the wicks in order to keep them upright until the wax dried. Using close pins to stand the wicks up worked out perfectly!

Let your candles sit over night to dry. Then cut your wicks down to 1/2 to a half inch. When you are all done go ahead & light your new lemon candles & enjoy that fresh clean smell all over your home!

These are perfect for around the house, kitchen, or on the mantle!

    Don’t the peels rot?

I do not see where you mentioned the amount of wax. I see that you said you used 2 TBS of essential oil. The amount of wax must have been more that needed to fill the lemons, what did you do with the excess.

I love this idea. Maybe oranges too?

Is there a way to forward this to my daughter??? She is opening a kitchen store and their theme is Lemons. Did you store any in the frig, I wonder if they would last a little longer that way?
