How to make a water candle. A water and oil candle makes a beautiful decoration, and they are easy to make since you don't need to melt wax! You can change what's in them for a wedding reception or for a centerpiece. Just use objects that won't float in the water.
These are easy to make, but there is still a flame. Keep out of reach of children or pets. Never let burn unattended.
You will need:
  • Clear glass container
  • 2 ounces vegetable oil
  • Floating wicks
  • 3 drops lemongrass
  • 2 drops sage
  • 1 drop cinnamon leaf
  • Decorations
I used glass beads, small seashells, and a gnome on a beach chair that I found with the fairy garden decorations. They are all from Dollar Tree.
Start by assembling the wick. Place the cotton wick through the disc with about 1/3 of the wick on top (the silver side is the top). Set aside.
Place the decorations in the glass container. Make sure there's enough room to completely cover the objects. The decorations shouldn't float.
Add water to cover the decorations. Leave at least 1/4 inch for the oil.
Add oil to the top to cover about 1/4 inch. Then add the essential oils. Stir to combine the oil and essential oils. The water and oil will separate again.
Then place the floating wick on top and light it. I use a long lighter because it can take up to 10 seconds to light. Let it burn in a safe area. You can add more wicks when it burns out. The water will get icky after a few days. Dump the water, wash the decorations, and remake it.
