Who's ever heard of DIY-ing with Coca-Cola? I'm not raising my hand because I would have never even thought of it had I not been challenged to do it! Of course, I took the challenge and after a few weeks of scratching my head, a spark of inspiration came and the DIY was on!
Rewind to last fall when I found a set of four pumpkin-clad placemats at one of the thrift stores I frequent. They were nice and sturdy with cork backs. For three bucks, I was pretty sure I could paint them and make something of them later.
So they sat in my craft room just waiting for their day.
And their day came when I was shopping Hobby Lobby and stumbled upon this classic Coca-Cola printed fabric! It was time they had their transformation!
This project is so super simple, it may be the easiest makeover ever. I simple gave those placemats a new face with fabric.
I started by lying them on the fabric and tracing around the edges.
Next, I gave the placemats a good coating of Mod Podge.
Then I smoothed the fabric on top and gave it a second coat of Mod Podge to seal it. I also added swiped it around the edges too to create a good seal.
Once they dried, they were ready to use! To add a bit more flair, I dropped three bright red silk flowers I had found on sale at Michael's into an empty Coca-Cola bottle and a simple, yet matching center piece was done!
While I would have likely never thought of using Coca-Cola as DIY theme, being part of a fun challenge was just the push I needed. Best of all, I joined some amazingly creative ladies in this project that shared their projects too.
