DIY Faux Pottery Barn Placemats

Want that Pottery Barn look without the Pottery Barn pricetag? Make these super simple faux PB placemats for a quarter of the price!

Here's what it looks like all completed! Now let's jump into the tutorial:

Start with some inexpensive rope. I bought mine from the dollar store.

You'll want to assemble all supplies on a work surface you don’t mind getting glue on.

Start by hot gluing one end of the rope into itself and start coiling the rope. As you continue to coil the rope, be sure to add small glue beads every 3 inches or so to ensure it stays together.

Try to get an excess glue only on one side so that you don’t see the glue spots on the finished side. This will make for a much more professional looking placemat at the end.

All in all, I used 3 packs of rope for this placemat. You could make yours bigger or smaller of course, depending on your need and aesthetic.

A great way to test that the size is right is to use one of your standard plates to make sure you are happy with the amount of stickout.

Ta-da! There you have it! For just $3 you now have a beautiful placemat!

How did you handle the end of the rope on the outside edge?

Any tricks to keep it from unraveling or just lots of glue? Love the look!

I am doing mine using parchment paper marked with the size. The hot glue does not stick to the paper and I can move it if I need to.
