DIY Mandala Stenciled No-Sew Drop Cloth Table Runner

Drop cloth is really some awesome stuff! It's cheap, it's durable, and it's natural color makes a beautiful backdrop for stencils. I was having a hard time finding an affordable table runner the right length for our 7' outdoor table. So, I picked up a 6' X 9' drop cloth and a stencil at Home Depot and made a custom no-sew stenciled table runner in less than an hour. The sweetest part of this project is that you can make 4 table runners from one drop cloth!
I found both the mandala stencil and the drop cloth in the paint section of Home Depot.
I already had the foam paint roller, painter's tape, and some left over navy latex paint. To make this project no-sew, you'll need 1/2" hemming tape.

First, I washed and dried the fabric since it tends to shrink. Then, I cut the fabric into a 17-1/2" wide strip since I wanted the finished runner to be 16" wide. Drop cloth is easy to tear into a straight line, by the way. I hemmed the edges by folding over 3/4" and then placing the hem tape inside the fold. After than, I pressed with the iron for a few seconds till the material was bonded together.
I used a foam roller to paint the stencil patterns.
There's more details in the blog post on how to figure out placement without having to measure.
I really love a project like this because it can be done in no time without any sewing . And when it’s finished, you have something creative and unique that you made with your own 2 hands!

Awesome! I'm in the same boat as you - 8' dining table - can never find a good runner. This is a great alternative that allows you to customize it! Thanks for the share.
