I'm a huge fan of vintage blue and white dishes, especially transferware! Something about the soft vintage florals speaks to me and I love to use my dishes as decor, not just to eat off of!

Sometimes these vintage dishes can be difficult to find, or they are just too pricey. That's why I create these decoupaged vintage inspired chargers. They look like the real thing but are very inexpensive and simple to make!

Here's how to make decoupage floral chargers

Supplies

I had previously painted the bamboo chargers I used for this project a dark blue. If you're using dark colored chargers (ie from the dollar store), give them a coat of white paint first so that the dark color doesn't show through the napkins. I learned this the hard way!

Paper napkins come in 2 or 3 ply (layers). Peel back all the layers so just the decorative front layer is left.

Paint a coat of decoupage medium (mod podge) onto the charger and carefully lay the napkin over the top. I found it easiest to do half the plate at a time.

Because the charger is round, you can expect some creases in the napkin. Don't worry, just press them as flat and smooth as possible.

Trim off the excess napkin around the edge of the charger. Paint a thin coat of mod podge onto the TOP of the floral napkin.

Adding a layer of mod podge onto the top of the napkins will help to seal any of the creases and protect the finished charger from water damage. It gives a protective coat that makes it easy to dust and keep the chargers clean!

And that's it! Use with your favorite white dishes or your blue and white dishes and see how prettily they work with your existing sets!
