How To Make Glamourous Colorful Party Napkin Rings

Last Christmas I made some fun Christmas ornaments out of bits of curtain pole fixings and rings (see here). I still had some wooden curtain rings left over.

I decided to use them to make some party napkin rings for all the special celebratory meals I'm going to make over the next year. Starting of course with New Year's Eve.

I made a set of six napkin rings, each one a different color. They are so quick and easy to make.

As well as the curtain ring, I used some scraps of ribbon I had in my craft stash. Two types of ribbon thin (1cm thick) glitter ribbon and thicker (2.5 cm) velvet ribbon.

First, remove the eyelet screw from the ring. You should be able to simply twist it off. Then get a length of glitter ribbon (about 30cm). Stick one end of the ribbon to the curtain ring with super glue and then wrap it around the ring.

Carry one wrapping the ring until it is all covered and you can no longer see any of the wood.

Secure the end of the ring with glue. You may have to hold it with a pin until the glue dries.

Next, make a matching mini velvet bow for the top of the napkin ring. Start by cutting the wide velvet ribbon into a piece about 8-10cm (3″-4″) long. Cut a piece of glitter ribbon about 3cm long. Fold over the ends of the wide ribbon into the middle and glue them together.

Next, wrap the short glitter ribbon tightly around the wider ribbon. Secure it in place with a dab of glue. You want to make sure the ribbon is wrapped tight enough so that the larger velvet ribbon is pinched a little in the middle.

Finish off by glueing the mini bow to the top of the napkin ring.

I ended up making a rainbow of napkin rings. They go with the colorful plates I use for my festive table settings.

I think a fancy napkin ring just adds a fun touch to a special set table. I also have a set of popular beautiful upcycled denim floral napkin rings, you can see them here.
