An Easy Way to Make a Tablecloth From Linen Towels and Crochet Runners
So happy to share with you a repurposing table decor I did from Thanksgiving that will be used for other holidays, like Christmas! These linens were my grandmother's. After she passed years ago, I was given them. Not sure what to do with them for years, this year, I decided to wash them and give them a new purpose. Follow along and see how I transformed these linens and crochet runners into a beautiful tablecloth!
FYI - they were never used. This makes a 107-inch table cloth that seats 8-10 people.
BEFORE IMAGE: These are the linen towels and crochet runners I used to make this unique tablecloth - I also used double-stick fabric tape. An iron, ironing board, and starch were also used.
First, I gathered all these supplies together. Be sure that the lace runner is the same length as the linen towels.
Then, I ironed the linen towels. Using a starch spray, I set the iron onto the wool setting which allowed for steaming but was not as hot. It could also be set on linen but I couldn't use this setting for the crochet lace runner. It was too hot for it.

I ironed the crochet lace runners on the warm setting. Not too hot, the lace would stick.
Then, I sent the table. First, I placed the table protector on it. It was white. This would cover the entire table and would protect the table from spills and heat.
I added the linen towels first and divided them evenly on the table. Starting at the end of the table and worked my way placing each linen towel on the table with the lace hanging over the sides. I left about 8-10 inches between the towels. Both towels' sides were to the end of the table. I did not want it to hang over in fear that it would fall off the table.
Now, I layered the runner on top of the towels and overlapped about a few inches or more. This would help with keeping the lace flat.
So, to attach the lace runner to the towel, I used two to three 1 inch pieces of double-stick tape and added them under the lace near the ends of the table.
I removed the tape backing.
Then I pressed the runner fabric ends on the double-stick tape.
After Image: Here is what the table looked like after it was finished. Cute right! The crochet runner gave a nice texture to the table. And, what a great story to tell my extended family at the dinner table.
After Image 2: Here is a close-up of the runner and linen towel.
To remove the pieces, I rolled the double-stick tape off the fabric and they were back to being separate pieces again. YAY!
