When a faded silk flower arrangement blew into our yard last winter, I stopped my husband from throwing it away. I knew exactly what I wanted to use it for.
I made a fun coastal centerpiece using the flowers dipped in plaster and a few seashells, moss, and pearls.
I mixed some plaster and water to the consistency of runny pancake batter in a disposable plastic container. Then I dipped each silk rose in and out of the mixture to completely coat it. I bent the end of the stem and hung it over this card display to dry. It was hot and humid so I let them dry overnight.
The roses were red, white and blue. I only dipped the white ones once. I love the delicate porcelain look.
The red and blue ones did not cover the color with one coat so I added another coat the next day. They have a much chunkier appearance.
I took a thrift store tired display and gave it a few light coats of beachy blue spray paint. Then I added Spanish moss, seashells, a few plaster dipped leaves and some pearls.
A last hurrah for summer...Wouldn't this make a fabulous decoration for a beach wedding? I can't wait to try this again for fall flowers. For more details and other great projects, head over to the blog: http://www.artisticendeavor101.blogspot.com/2015/08/plaster-dipped-silk-flowers.html.
