I've had my eye on antique bronze wishbone napkin rings from Pottery Barn for my Thanksgiving table, but could not justify paying $10 each! I decided to try making my own DIY version.
The hardest part of the project was finding the correct materials to recreate the orginal napkin rings. I found cheap metal wishbones and metal rings to turn make the napkin rings. Get the full source list at Bren Did.com.
A bit of metal adhesive was used to hold the two piece of metal together. I clothes pinned the pieces and let them dry overnight for better adhesion. (You might want to glue the pieces in the garage, the adhesive is stinky!)
Once the napkin rings were securely fastened, I used spray paint to recolor the napkin rings. It took 2 coats to get the right coverage and color.
The final step was add a bit of black paint to make the napkin rings look antique and add some dimension. Dabbing with a sponge made the antiquing process easier and helped the paint look more authentic.
The final DIY Wishbone Napkin Rings are a beautiful addition to my Thanksgiving dining room table. PLUS making them myself saved me more than $80.00! Check out the original expensive rings and get the full DIY instructions at Bren Did.
