Whitewashed Box With Gold Pine Cones Holiday Centerpiece

This simple centerpiece easily transitions from Thanksgiving to Christmas; gotta love multitasking holiday decor!
My husband put this rustic wooden box together for me with some leftover 2 by 6s and a plywood bottom. Super quick and easy; he just cut them down to size, Kreg Jigged them together, and gave the whole thing a light sanding.
For the finish, I started with a coat of dark walnut stain, then whitewashed it, then went over it again with some white paint with a dry brush technique.
We use the box as a centerpiece year round and switch out what we put in it seasonally (gourds for fall/Halloween, brass candlesticks part of the year). But for the holidays, we filled it with pine cones we collected from outside and spray painted gold. First we put them in the oven at 200 degrees for half an hour to kill any lingering bugs.
Then a few light coats of gold spray paint.
And all done! Our Thanksgiving/Christmas table has a lot of gold touches like these little reindeer salt and pepper shakers, so the pine cones fit in beautifully.
