3 Easy Halloween Crafts

Quick and Dirty Tips

Domestic CEO has 3 fun and easy Halloween decorations that you can make make at home. Here's how to have a super spooky Halloween.
Mummy Votive Jars

Here's what you'll need to make these fun, googly-eyed votives:

Glass jars of various sizes (I used 2 large canning jars, 1 smaller jar from spaghetti sauce, and one baby food jar to make a "family" of mummies)

Cheesecloth

Craft googly eyes

Glue

Cut 3 strips of cheesecloth about 4 inches wide and 12 inches long. Starting at the bottom of the jar, wrap a strip of cheesecloth around the jar. Continue with the next strip right over the end of the first strip, then do the same with the third strip. Glue down the end with a dot of craft glue or hot glue, and glue down any other loose spot. Finally, glue on two googly eyes to look like a mummy. Put a votive candle inside and light.
Hanging Bats

These adorable bats are easy to make and can be reused year after year. Here's what you'll need:

Sheets of black foam paper, 8 " x 11" (1 sheet for each bat)

Craft googly eyes

Paper hole puncher

Fishing line

Craft glue or hot glue

Fold a piece of black foam paper in half horizontally. Place the bat template on the folded edge of the foam and trace the shape onto the paper with a pencil. Keeping the foam folded, cut out the bat shape, then unfold it and punch a hole in the tail of the bat. Glue on two googly eyes. Loop fishing line through the hole, keeping the line at the desired length you'd like. Knot the ends of the fishing line together, and hang the bats in a tree or anywhere you'd like!
Canning Jar Spooks

This craft combines two of my favorite craft items: spray paint and mason jars. With just a few items, you can turn a boring glass jar into a spooky Halloween decoration. These are the items needed for this project:

Canning jars or any glass jars, labels and glue removed

Gold spray paint

Black spray paint

Wide rubber bands, or flat and wide elastic hair ties

Craft googly eyes

Craft glue or hot glue

Prepare an area for spray painting. I painted my jars outside, using a flattened cardboard box to protect the area I was spraying. Turn each jar upside down and spray the entire outer surface with gold spray paint. Let dry completely. Next, put rubber bands or hair ties around the jar at various levels; make some crooked, and some overlapping each other. I used approximately 10 for each jar.

Turn the jars upside down - again, in the painting area - and spray with the black paint. Let dry completely, then remove all the rubber bands or hair ties. Finally, glue on two googly eyes to make the spook peek out from between the lines. Add a votive candle, battery-operated candle, or a glow stick to the inside of the jar to light it up. Enjoy!

Whether you choose to make one or all these projects, you'll have Halloween decorations that can be used for many years to come.
