A "Not So Scary" Miniature Graveyard

We don't normally do Halloween on a big scale here in South Africa, but I so love the thought of seeing kids dress up and trick or treating. It looks like so much fun. Well if I can't go big then I guess I'll have to go small to get into the spirit of things icon So we made ourselves this miniature graveyard

The best thing about the miniature graveyard is the moon!! It lights up at night and casts an eerie glow all over the graveyard

Isn't that cool? If you’d like to make something similar all you need is a few small skeletons, some paint, a ping pong ball and solar lights, coconut fiber, twigs, leaves and floral foam, balsa wood and texture paste or plaster of Paris and a suitable container. We used a large calabash or gourd, but a big plastic pumpkin would also work. We sprayed the inside of the gourd black and then used florist foam and coconut fiber to line the bottom.

Then we were ready to add all the spooky bits. Some gravestones made from balsa wood that's been covered in plaster of Paris and a dry twig draped with steel wool to mimic spider webs. Every graveyard needs some spiders right!!? icon

Add few skeletons and finally the moon. The moon is a ping pong ball that's been stuffed with solar lights.

I really love how easy it was to make and besides the ping pong balls, we had everything else. So it cost us almost nothing to create a spooky, not so scary Halloween vibe.

I'd love to know what you think of our miniature graveyard and how you'll be decorating for Halloween. We put the detailed tutorial of how we made all the bits of the blog. The link should be down there at the bottom. Come say hi if you get a chance.

Oh, BTW we have a whole bunch of fairy tutorials on the blog. Just click on this icon   link to scroll through to our fairy stories and see what you like.
