I saw something similiar to this on Pinterest...yes, I am addicted! I changed it up bit. After deciding to do this project, I told a few friends that I was in search of an old wooden ladder. A few days later, my friend saw not only one, but two for sale on FB. AND an old (large) milk can for $55.
First, I sanded the ladder lightly, to make sure there no little pieces of wood sticking out.

Next, I had an American Flag that I purchased at Big Lots 3 years ago.
It actually is meant to hang on the front of a door. The material is stiff.
I folded it in half and tied to the top and the bottom as you can see.
I bought some Americana garland at A.C. Moore on sale for 40% off. It was listed as $9.99. So I got it at $6!
I had the raffia laying around the house. But that can also be purchased at A.C Moore or any craft store.
Here is the garland...
I purchased two wooden yard signs (they have stakes attached to them) at A.C. Moore, also on sale for $8.99 each. I added a red, white and blue star twig also purchased at A.C. Moore for $2.99.
I bought this star at the Goodwill last month for $2.99.
I removed the twine and ribbon. The red and white ribbon went perfect with the Americana theme!
I spray painted it with the Rust-Oleum Flat Black color first.
Then I covered it (not all of it) with Rust-Oleum Colonial Red. I added a small 'ball' sprig of red, white and blue balls from A.C. Moore....$2.99.
Both were purchased last year at Home Depot for $3.49 each.
I hung it with a tack.
And here it is....all done! This will stand on our front porch from May to September. I hope you like it!
