Did you know that you can apply heat transfer vinyl to wood? Yup, you sure can! My mind was recently blown when I saw a tutorial on adding heat transfer vinyl (HTV) to a wooden box. The ideas immediately began racing through my head and I knew I wanted to use Gold Glitter HTV to create a Valentine Plaque with Cricut EasyPress and a fun wood slice with the bark still on. Follow along on my blog post and see how I made it!
Bee Mine Plaque
Recently I won a Cricut EasyPress 2 from an online contest and was stoked! I was even more excited when I realized that there was Heat Transfer Vinyl in some pre-cut shapes, so I could start creating instantaneously because I am a self-confessed impatient crafter. I selected the gold glitter Bee Design and a wood slice plaque that I had in my stash. On the Cricut website you will find a complete Heat Guide, just plug in the information. The type of EasyPress, the type of vinyl, and the surface, and you will get the proper heat settings and complete instructions. SCORE!
Begin by pre-heating the EasyPress 2 to 300°F. Always work on a flat hard surface, I like my kitchen island. Lay the EasyPress Mat out on your work surface, place the wooden plaque on top and then pre-heat the wood for 5 seconds. Place the heat transfer vinyl design on the wood with the liner side up, press with firm pressure at 300°F for 40 seconds.
Slowly remove the clear liner when the gold glitter iron-on is cool to the touch. For additional instructions on using Glitter, Heat Transfer Vinyl can be found on the Cricut website. They have fabulous tutorials and step-by-step instructions for all the EasyPress heat presses.
To finish the Valentine Plaque with Cricut, hand-letter BEE MINE across the top of the wooden plaque with the MONOTWIN Permanent Marker. I like to start out with the extra fine tip and then use the bullet tip to create a variety of line widths. Tie a bow in black and white ribbon, leaving the tails extra long so they dangle out from the bottom of the plaque. Attach the ribbon bow to the back of the wooden plaque with Tombow Xtreme Mounting Putty.
This Bumble Bee design is available in Cricut Design Space, so you can create a Valentine Plaque with Cricut EasyPress! Change up the design and the vinyl to create a personalized piece of decor for your home (or your Valentine) The possibilities are endless!
