Think outside the vase and create a nautical centerpiece for the Fourth of July.

I had a blog challenge to create a tablescape for summer. This centerpiece combines some nautical fun for summer boating season on the lake and a love for the red, white and blue, to celebrate the Fourth of July!

To make a centerpiece for my summer table, I used a boat caddy that I purchased 4 years ago at HomeGoods, designed to hold flatware, dishes and napkins.

Here's how I used it originally for our Nautical Pontoon Picnic. You can see all the details, HERE.

I used acrylic drinking glasses to serve as mini vases to fit in the compartments. Plastic grocery bags help keep the cups in place and from shifting when filled with water and flowers.

Instead of flatware, dishes and napkins, the compartments are filled flowers and flags. . . red and white alstroemeria, white stock from the grocery store, and blue hydrangeas from the garden.

Tip: Keep your cut hydrangeas from wilting with the alum-dipping method!

Here's an overhead view of the completed centerpiece. It's ready to set sail for summer and to celebrate the red, white and blue!

Here is the centerpiece at a table for two on our dock.
