DIY Halloween Cheesecloth Ghosts

I ran across similar ghosts a couple years ago on Pinterest and thought they were adorable. The problem is that once I start pinning Halloween decorations, October is too busy to actually MAKE them. This year I had one weekend in September with NOTHING on the calendar…WHAT?! I took advantage of it and along with some apple picking with my family, I made a few Halloween decorations. Here is what you'll need:

• cheesecloth
• liquid starch
• water balloons
• mason jar
• pipe cleaners
• card stock/stickers 
• felt or markers for eyes

First I doubled the pipe cleaner to make it more stable. I then made an indent in it and bent the sides upwards. Place that in the jar.

Next comes the balloon, let it sit right on top. This will be your Halloween ghost’s head.

Cut the cheesecloth to 36″ long. I then unfold it from the many folds of the manufacturer and fold it in half.

Fill a small dish with liquid starch and wet the cheesecloth. Squeeze the excess out of it and drape it over the balloon, letting the extra fall to the ground and gather. You may have to play with it a bit to get the shape you desire. 

I let mine sit overnight. Then I gently lifted it off the balloon and pipe cleaner. Next I chose to make small banner flags out of burlap. Michaels had little burlap tags that I bought and cut to size. I cut out the “BOO” using my Cricut but you can buy letter stickers from any store that sells crafts. I then hot glued the flags onto a black string which I hot glued to the ghost’s “hands”. I cut eyes out of vinyl or you can use felt. Mine are 1/2 inch diameter.

I made a couple of these, one with a burlap banner...
