DIY String Art

3 Materials
Have you seen these great string art projects? They are fun and easy and you can challenge yourself to make an ornate design, or just go random and style whatever catches your interest!
First off, you want to start with these linoleum nails which you can get at any big box home improvement store.
You can use an image printed out on a piece of paper or a shape out of wood, or chipboard like I used this heart. I put one linoleum nail in at the point in the top of the heart so I knew where I was beginning to put my nails in.
Measure and use an awl or an ice pick to mark where you will put your nails, each half inch. These indentations will make it easier to nail in your linoleum nails.
Here you can see the indentations made by the awl.
Then simply nail in those nails all the way around your pattern. TIP: Hold each nail with a pair of pliers with the side of your pliers flat against your base and nail the nail down to the other side of your pliers...this will make all of your nails be the same height.
It is time for the fun part...add your string! Make sure you secure it well with a couple of good tight knots. Go ahead and make a random pattern if that is your choice, making sure you wrap the string around each nail, and I find it is best to always wrap it around each nail twice to make sure it does not slip off.
I like to use embroidery thread and there are so many beautiful colors to choose from1 .
After you have finished all of the wrapping, making sure you keep tension on your string at all times, you have a beautiful piece of art to display!
